BBC contacted me recently and asked if they could include some of my footage in a video they were producing about lithium and electric vehicles.
Well, the video came out, and frankly it's bad. It barely mentions the harms mining causes to communities, and has ZERO mention of the environmental destruction associated with mining, electrification, and extraction in general.
It gives 2 seconds to the idea of consuming less. 99% of the video is "how do we get what we want?" It's completely anthropocentric. It's a perfect reflection of a growth-driven, self-centered culture.
And of course, the whole idea of "net zero" is a greenwashing lie, because carbon capture technology is barely functional, exceptionally expensive, and essentially impossible to scale to the size proposed by boosters. It's a way to try to avoid facing the reality that our way of life must change.
This is why I don't trust mainstream media outlets, even "not for profit" ones. They are telling people what they want to hear, not the truth.
Yeah that was disappointing. At least there was the brief mention of buying less and taking some personal responsibility. But it was said with a bit of a shrug - I guess we could buy less... I agree with your point that there was zero discussion of destroying local communities and the environment to make all of this happen. I just don't understand the cognitive dissonance around this. It's like it just doesn't occur to people. I guess when you are so far removed from the destruction you can just ignore that aspect of the problem.
