Ah yes - walkable communities. A few years back there was funding available to develop footpaths through this town which straddles an interstate highway It was shot down by a small but very vocal (and extremely bigoted and hyperbolically dishonest) group of people because they didn't want "those" kind of people threatening their belongings and "quality of life". I went to one of their meetings, introduced myself, apologized for damaging their "quality of life" by walking to the meeting and asked exactly how someone on foot could make off with their big screen TV and surround sound. The response was a resounding open mouthed silence. How dare I!

The "more wind turbines and solar panels" movement is alive and well in Canada. Our National radio station CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Corporation) talks about climate change and "the fight against climate change" almost every hour of every day. A member of the David Suzuki organization was talking about "Peak Oil Demand" again yesterday. This morning comments about green energy not working and being backed up with natural gas were dismissed as oil industry propaganda. With ideas like this drilled into us it's no wonder our country has been green washed. I have a close friend who believed the hype and it has taken me 2 years to convince him that green energy will only make the problem worse. He still says "what about hydrogen" or some other miracle.

I live in Nelson, British Columbia a supposedly an environmentally concious community. Our main environmental organization is promoting 100% renewable energy by 2050. I have written them as to why this won't work and they will not respond. We live in a mountainous region of the Interior Cedar Hemlock biogeoclimatic zone. It is cloudy most of the winter and the wind blows only during storms. Our climate is rapidly getting warmer and drier. Our forests are dying from drought and becoming a tinderbox for forest fires.

Still, for many locals the solutions are still EV's, wind turbines, solar panels and reusable shopping bags.........

Max, I assumed the chapter was just sitting there, didn't mean to hand you another project to think about, and your posts here cover so much ground there's certainly no sense of vacancy!

Excellent analysis. Thank you, Max. Please do publish the chapter for Bright Green Lies that didn't make the final cut.
